Gone
Fishing is a short film, shot on 35mm, and directed
by Chris Jones. It is the moving story of a young
boy and old man as they deal with bereavement
through their love of fishing. The tale is wrapped
around Old Bill’s story of how when he was a boy, he
tried to catch the worlds biggest pike, making this
unusual film ‘Jaws for kids!’
The Production...
'Gone Fishing' was shot at Bury Hills Fisheries in Dorking and at Ealing Studios in August 2007. It stars Bill Patterson and introduces young James Wilson, an astonishing newcomer to the big screen. He is already receiving rave reviews on stage. It also stars Devon Murray from the Harry Potter series and British actresses Lynn Blakely and Ruth Gemmel.
Renowned veteran DP, Vernon Layton shot 'Gone Fishing',
utilising a number of old school techniques, such as a
stocking on the back of the lens, to give us astonishing
beautiful and lyrical images.
‘Gone Fishing’ was completed in
January 2008 and premiered at BAFTA for family, cast and
crew, on January 12th.
The
reception to film was nothing short of astonishing with
a lengthy standing ovation for the film and its
director. Many people commented on the ‘gorgeous
images’, the ‘exciting and dynamic sound’, and ‘a
touching story that really does bring a tear to the
eye…’
The production team is now gearing up for a festival run, and the drive for the BAFTAs and Oscars in 2009.
